Name of VCS Rep: Steve Clark Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change.

The Workforce Reform Steering Group meeting took place on 5th March 2010. The  date of the next meeting is 28th May 2010. The main areas of discussion was the Workforce Strategy update and Development of ‘Common Core’ training.

Part of e overall discussion regarding the roll out of ‘Common Core’ training  and implications this has for VCS. (Common Core Paper to be taken to IVO for further discussion). Query regarding take up of place on Vi2dus training from VCS (Common Outcomes). Adequate take up from VCS but need to fill places for Autumn. (Steve Clark to disseminate details on receipt via VSF/IVO/CYWP networks. Training targeted at ‘leaders and managers’. Discussion re links to Safeguarding (LSCB) and barriers VCS members are facing in accessing training. (Alison Cook, Health and LSCB, to bring an overview of LSCB Safeguarding Training to next WfR meeting). Need for ‘plan’ to have success indicators so progress can be monitored (Workforce Plan attached). Steve Clark has joined a small sub group tasked with assessing who, what, where, when, how ‘Common Core’ will be rolled out. Particularly interested in what this means for VCS and ‘backfill’. Possibility that ‘Common Core’ will be contracted out. (Links to Plan and papers available on VSF website: Item 4 – Delivery Options for Common Core v0.5 Item 1 – Children’s Trust Workforce Reform Steering Group minutes )

At the next meeting there will be a Workforce Plan update Safeguarding Training

BIG ISSUES for the VCS needs to respond to:

  • Are VCS in a position to deliver ‘Common Core’,
  • do they have the right levels of qualification (PTTLS) and do they want to?
  • What are the implications for VCS of Common Core?
