Main areas of discussion were:
- Cornwall Councils response to Ofsted Report. Presented to LSCB by Richard Hubbard and Chaired by Dave Ellis.
Issues for the next meeting include:
- Sam Pashley (CYWP Chair) will be representing VCS at the ‘Quality Improvement Working Group’ which will be looking at Council’s response to the Ofsted report.
- The Ofsted Action Plan is currently confidential; however VCS should lobby Sam if they wish their voice to be heard with regards to improving service delivery (particular reference to Safeguarding).
Issues the VCS need to respond to are:
- Continue to lobby for change in working relations with Stat Sector, particularly at Senior Management Level.
- Challenge notion that ‘multi agency working’ includes VCS – more often that it does not.
- Risk that existing approach encourages Stat Sec service providers to become inward looking without considering the wider implications for VCS and partnership working.
- e.g. CN4C have recently been asked by a Community Network Manager for reference numbers for CRB checks, a request which has been declined in accordance with data protection. An indication perhaps of the overzealousness of stat staff in response to Ofsted Report.
